Bathroom tiles come in a dizzying range of types and styles including ceramic, porcelain and natural stone in various sizes, styles and finishes. At Allbits we have a select range of tried and tested quality tiles available to take the stress out of choosing. The tiles shown throughout this article are from Boyden tiles.

Investing in high quality tiles that can withstand daily wear saves money in the long run and are usually easier to clean and maintain keeping your space looking fresh for years to come.

The tiles you choose impact the overall look and feel of your bathroom, from cosy and rustic to sleek and modern.

Patterns can be used to create a feature wall or highlight a smaller area, such as a shower wall or behind the sink. You can do this via colour, shape or even texture.

The colour of your tiles can dictates the feel of a room. Whether you want it light and open, cosy or bold - it’s all in the colour. Lighter colours can often make a space feel bigger, but don’t be afraid to add some contrast with different colours and patterns to make a room more interesting.

Other considerations include the importance of choosing a slip resistant tile if tiling your bathroom floor.

Ceramic tiles
Ceramic tiles can be used for both the walls and floor of your bathroom. Typically they are popular for wall tiles as they are not as strong as porcelain tiles however in a lower traffic area such as the bathroom they can be a more budget friendly choice for both the floor and walls.

Porcelain tiles
Porcelian tiles are water resistant and durable as they are fired at higher temperatures than ceramic tiles so are suitable for both the floors and walls, as well as being ideal for underfloor heating.

Natural stone tiles
Natural stone tiles have their own unique charecteristics adding a touch of individuality and elegance to your bathroom as well as being durable. Marble, slate, limestone, grantite and travertine are all avalable and can all be used for underfloor heating. They do however require more maintenance than either ceramic or porcelain tiles such as sealing and regular cleaning.

Style and asetetics

Consider how the colour and texture of your tiles will impact the existing design elements in your bathroom. Light-coloured tiles can help make small spaces feel more expansive while darker tiles can add a chic moody feel to your bathroom.

The size and shape of the tile you choose can have a similar effect, with larger tiles helping the space feel more expansive.

Rectangular tiles can trick the eye and help a room appear longer, whereas square tiles can give a room a clean balanced look.

You can also go for sheer aestethic joy and pick a patterned tile or more unusual shape such as hexaginal to really add some charecter to your bathroom.

Choosing the right finish will help with the functionality of your bathroom. Matt and textured finishes are more slip resistant so good for the floor whereas beautiful glossy tiles with their reflective nature go well on the walls making the space feel brighter.
